Patent search, explained

Find earlier patents before they become expensive surprises.

HRNFTR helps founders, engineers and investors begin a patent search without specialist syntax. Learn what the engine looks for, which databases it uses and where legal review is still essential.

How it works

Patent searching without patent-search syntax.

Instead of starting with patent numbers, IPC codes or Boolean operators, describe how the technology works. The tool extracts essential technical features, builds multilingual search terms and ranks documents that appear closest to the description.

01

Describe the mechanism

Name the components, explain how they interact and identify the technical result the system produces.

02

We construct queries

The engine prepares synonyms, technical phrases and International Patent Classification hints in Ukrainian and English.

03

You verify the records

Each result links to a source document. Review the full publication, claims, bibliographic data and legal status before relying on it.

Patent databases

Three ways to check one technology.

No single database guarantees a complete search. The tool combines structured retrieval with direct links for independent follow-up.

Official Ukrainian source

NIPO Ukraine

Search registered Ukrainian inventions and utility models across titles, abstracts, claims, applicants and IPC classifications.

Worldwide publications

EPO OPS / Espacenet

Search the European Patent Office’s worldwide bibliographic collection. Confirm legal status in the relevant official register.

Google Patents

Explore patent publications, translations, citations and non-patent literature. Google Patents is an aggregator, not the authoritative legal-status register.

How to improve a search

Describe the technical solution, not the business idea.

Useful description: “The system contains a camera, an on-device recognition model and a controller that changes the lighting mode when human movement is detected.”

  • Name the physical or software components.
  • Explain their relationships and sequence of operations.
  • Describe the measurable technical effect.
  • Avoid limiting the query to a product name or market.

Frequently asked questions

What to know before searching.

Can I search patents in Ukrainian?+

Yes. Submit a description in Ukrainian or English. The system prepares multilingual technical terms because Ukrainian patent records can contain Ukrainian and English text.

Does this determine patentability?+

No. It is a discovery tool for locating potentially relevant documents. It does not replace a professional novelty, inventive-step, validity or freedom-to-operate analysis.

Why do different databases return different results?+

Databases differ in coverage, text availability, update schedules and patent-family grouping. Important searches should therefore be checked across several sources.

Should I enter a confidential invention description?+

No. Do not submit secret, unpublished or client information. The query may be processed by Google Gemini to prepare search terms when that server-side feature is enabled.

Where should I confirm legal status?+

Use the official register of the relevant patent office. Google Patents and similar aggregators are useful discovery tools but are not authoritative evidence of current legal status.
